A&S Championship and Display 2022: Youth Entry, Solivere of Malagentia

Here is my writeup about the making of my pewter tokens for the Online Youth A & S display. I hope you enjoy learning about the process!

I began by drawing and refining my design, which for this particular project was a raspberry leaf with some roman numerals underneath.

Using a smooth piece of soapstone, I chiseled out a shallow coin shape into the soapstone and transferred my design over by doing a graphite transfer. I then carved my design in with a metal chisel and a metal ball tool. I also added a pour spout at that time.

With my mom’s help, I heated the pewter in a small heating pot and carefully poured it into the mold. After a few seconds it hardened and I knocked it out and let it cool fully. Lastly, I sawed off the pewter that was in the pour spout and filled it down.

They came out better than I could have imagined and I can’t wait to make more!
