Alanna of Skye — German Brick Stitch Reliquary Pouch

This is an embroidered reliquary pouch based on a variety of extant pouches and the embroidery pattern in part of a wall hanging.  These were common in the area around Germany, where brick stitch was a popular embroidery technique that fully covered the ground fabric with generally geometric designs.  The seams have been made with tablet weaving, and the strings are fingerloop braid, both of which were common for these pouches.  The ground fabric is linen, the embroidery is filament silk, and the seams and lacing are spun silk.  Brick stitch is generally found from the 13th to the 15th century, with most extant examples being from the 14th century.  There’s a whole lot more info in the full documentation link.
