My name is Sigvardr Halfdanarson and this is a project where I developed a silver alloy to mimic a silver alloy in the Cuerdale Hoard. I go into how the alloy would have been made with period tools, and how I created the alloy.

This was so interesting, thank you for sharing! I had no idea what went into this process!
Neither did I when I started the process
I really appreciate the research you did into this and the explanations you provided about details not obvious to the non-smith. Thank you for sharing, I love your art!
Ty for your words
You really made this process understandable for me – someone who knows essentially nothing about working with metal. Very clear and concise. And also a great insight into the way different materials can affect the work we do in making reproductions.
Thank you if you have anymore questions find me on facebook silverhand jewelry or Aaron richards
Beautiful alloy! It really looks like the extant finds I’ve seen. Great research, too — I had no idea there was such a disparity in the purity of the different silver alloys found, but it makes sense. So cool that you can trace back which silver comes from which region based on its elemental make-up! And fascinating that the Vikings used different alloys for different parts of the same brooch (it makes chemical sense, but it’s really cool that they knew the properties of the different alloys enough to make that decision). Impressive work; thank you for sharing!
Thank you
